Open source-linux Ubuntu 10.10

Heloooo ~~is me again
miss me??
hope not~~~~!wahahahahahah

If you were hoping to see some microbes or chemistry again~i think i would disappoint you this time,
today's article is about things that were concerining computer software
As a biotech, we were force to deal with computer all the time. For DNA sequencing, data analysis, machine operation and report preparation. Therefore, a fully functional computer would really be a time saver.

today, i am going to introduce to you about a Operating system ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system) , which is free, fast and fully functional

the OS i am using here is called linux Ubuntu. linux is the kernal while Ubuntu is the real  OS.
The desktop manager i am using is gnome 2.2, while compiz as my composite manger.
i used emerald as my decoration manager in a few of the photos below, just for illustation purposes. I still prefer the original theme.

ALL PICTURES BELOW ARE TAKEN FROM MY COMPUTER~!WAHAHAHA

A basic overview of my desktop, showing a messenger, a Google chrome internet browser and a movie player showing the movie "ice age 3"
An overview of my system properties, while the dock locating at the bottom of the screen. It is named "docky"--the best dock no money can buy.
For your information, my laptop is already 3 years old~~equivalent to 60years old for a human age.

A window showing my chemistry slide with inverted color, one of my favorite features in the documents viewer. Open office is also provided on default, so you dont have to worry about how to open your assigment on this OS.

OK, now with the always famous effects  on linux
hmm, now that you need to open you assigment, refering to your lecture notes, chatting with friends, faceboking. watch some video and in the same time monitering your computer performances
i know it might soudn crazy, but i think most of the people did this without even knowing you were.
the best part about compiz is, you can just click on to a button, or move your mouse onto the edge, and all the program just present as a slideshow, which you can just choose from it.(as shown below)
a "scale presentation of all windows"

a windows "cover", activated by pressing down alt+tab

Or the desktop cube, which is used for navigation between each desktop. Usually 4 desktop is enable on default.

Another desktop managing system named "desktop wall", which shows all your desktop at one plane.
Some eye candy is also present in Ubuntu, such as this fire on desktop function, even though funcationally useless, they give quite a big Wow when you showing off your desktop.
Windows game can also be run from Linux using WINE, a software that emulates the environment of windows. In this case, i am playing Portal~~
Another screen shot from my game~~~~

Fianlly, a video i made last night due to insomnia. Probably cause by the Teh-O besar i had during dinner time. Enjoy.~~

Fianally, FAQ session
WHY Linux?
free, fast and easy to use

How to get one?

yes, you can still keep your windows 7 ultimate(i am currently using 2 OS in my computer)
