Biotechnology Road Show~!

Light are on and films are rolling
Thats a start for Swinburne road show~!!!

Last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Swinburne Sarawak came out with a advertising road show in Spring shopping mall. As always, the school of science were involved.

The basic theme of the show was the technology that were involved in the famous TV series CSI: crime scene investigation.

this involved things like  DNA extraction, and polymerase chain reaction.
the picture below shows the basic setup of the tools needed for THE analysis.

And also, microscopic slide were introduced. a smoker's lung slide and a healthy lung slide were placed to educate the public that it was never a good habit to smoke.

Dissecting microscope ~~basically they have an magnification of .8-3.5x on the objective lens where and 10x magnification on the eye pieces.

Another dissecting microscope with a dead butterfly as the specimen.

The picture below shows a head of a dragon fly.

Next, we also have an array of colorful transition metal salt for display~

A few packs of Lanolin for hand cream making~they were wrapped into a candy for easy transportation.

The lanolin above is then mixed into one of the beakers below and two phases were mixed with a chopstick violently.

and poof~! that's an home made hand cream
You can actually made these hand-cream if  you had things like paraffin, glycerol and cetyl-alcohol.
just leave a comment if you need the recipe
