Vortex Machine-Maxi Mix II

HI everyone,

ever get tired of shaking and mixing your solutions like stupid idoit?
Fear no more~~

the Maxi MIx II is here
and is more powerful that it ever will be!!!

so...what is a vortex machine anyway?

A vortex maching is basically a machine that creates vortex by vibrating it with a certain frequency.
something like swirling your solution when you are hyperactive.

it can be set ON using touch, or just be ON at all time.
and i would say they are seriously useful when you are dissolving cell pellet.

A mode select allow you to set the vibration speed.

In some cases, high speed vortex would actually damage your sample since you would cause searing in DNA and might actually kill your cells.
the rack for the vortex~~~~
So that all for today about mixing

And finally, some underwater world that you can find in our lab.

The bottom part of a dirty beaker~~~~

Thats all for today everyone

see you next time

Pantai Puteri Trip-Part 3

i think i would just share some of my photos taken during the trip~

Enjoy everyone

Refrigerated Incubator

For those who are following, i think i did mention above the incubator oven to you guys a few weeks ago
but
what if you need a temperature which is lower than room temperature??

nope, we don't use a fridge or a person keep blowing at it.

We use something call the refrigerated Incubator.

The temperature we use here is 25C, but the temperature can
actually go down to about 4C.

25C is usually for the incubation of bacteria and fungi from the environment.

Lets take a closer look
it was almost the same as the oven incubator, but much larger
and WAY MORE expansive//

Some hardware Specification~

An awesome ON and OFF button.

Finally an un related photo...unwashed flask in a basin

thanks everyone for watching, bye~

Silica Gel Desiccator

Today, is all about drying

Dry weight a really important measurement of cell especially when you are dealing with analytic science.
As a example, the concentration of specific compound that were present in the cell, or just the measurement of the cell mass itself.

so in order to dry the sample without using a expansive equipment, a glass desiccator would be your choice.

It is basically a glass jar with silica beads inside

The cover can be removed to place your sample into the compartment.

holes that connect your sample to the silica beads chamber.

Silica beads

In this case, someone is drying their sample with this glass jar.

The way of doing this is to basically filter their nutrient broth  to obtained the  cells. The pre-weighted filter paper is then placed into the desiccator for a few days for the water to evaporate.
the paper can then be re-weight to obtain the net weight of the cell.

Thanks for watching everyone, bye~~
